New activities with stories & role-play

Forest School Freebies is here to share Forest School activity ideas for your children.

Our free activity plans provide a collection of stories and ideas to stir children’s imaginations and creativity. From setting up play environments to skilling up children to achieve their goals, there will be something here for you.

Why Freebies?

No Catches – We’re here to support Forest School Leaders looking for new ideas, techniques and approaches and to promote our 3 books.

Activity Plans

Our Activity Plans were developed with the shorter Forest School session in mind, where access to woodland is limited. The main focus is the development and application of age-appropriate outdoor craft skills and nature-based activities. These include:

    • Making activities using natural materials.
    • Basic sewing and weaving crafts.
    • Activities from different traditions, such as Indian rangoli patterns and indigenous Australian dot-painting.
    • A variety of craft activities using clay.
    • Story based activities themed on pirates, dragons and trolls.

Activities can be downloaded in ‘lesson plan’ pdf format.

Forest School Freebies offers a range of Skills Builders to support you with activities that may require a new skill set.  Some explore basic Forest School skills such as the safe use of saws and hand drills, others address more complex activities to help with set-up and delivery.

The Books

The three books ‘Forest School for the Primary Setting’, ‘The Power of Outdoor Learning’ and ‘The Power of Labyrinths’ are written to help you broaden your outdoor education horizons. They’re reasonably priced and provide a wealth of Activity Plans. Check them out on this website.

Safety & Risk Mitigation

All our activities were developed with children and continue to be used in a school setting. No child or setting is the same however, and safety is ultimately down to your own risk assessments, competence and staff:pupil ratios. Please read our disclaimer and advice on safety.
